Slash, how many half-open connections do you allow for? My uTorrent has a default setting of 100, that is extremely many. In qBitTorrent, they had 50 as a default setting and they advised users to go down to 20-25 if they encountered problems, like i. e. WLAN failing and similar. I have 0 kB / s up- and download several times / h and also cannot open any websites during that time, and it seems, WLAN is the problem, because I havn't experienced them when being connected over LAN yet.

And another question:
Sometimes I see seeders for one of my incompleted torrents, and I can not download from them. Are seeders that didn't configure their Torrent-client and Router properly, so cannot be connected to, still shown as seeders? Does the site recognize them as seeding a torrent (and i. e. doesn't give them hit- and runs) even though connecting to them is impossible?

And another thing, WTF. There are seeders I can connect to and download from, but with 0.1 or 0.2 kB / s! Even a 56k modem connection would allow for more, do they maybe throttle their upload-speed to minimum, so the site recognizes them as successfully seeding torrents while efficiently downloading from them actually gets prevented by them?

Sry for multi-post, I mistook the quote + reply button for the edit button. Edited the posts as good as possible, but cannot delete this one.

forgot about half-opens years ago.
sometimes nothing would download cause my drives are overloaded.
torrent seeding system is very fragile, it works, until you prod it with a stick... do you suggest for the site to keep trying every peer and download bits of data via bittorrent protocol to confirm that this is a peer and is seeding? tracker decides on what info client gives it. tracker cannot know whether client seeds just 1% of the torrent or 100% of it. or do you feel since you can't connect - then it's not a seed? i don't understand. so what "slow"? noone uses modems anymore. this could be connection via smart phone or something, that has 15 wifi routers on the way to your client, so 95% of data is lost along the way. and then again, how do you suggest we treat seeders that have not figured out the settings? i don't get it, bro. first you're glad site doesn't differ between connectable and not, now you're suggesting we differentiate between them? how do you suggest we show these bad seeders? how will system guess this connection is not good? check?system does check, gives it 1 connection, and decides if peer is connectable this way,. what if something happened on this very connection? do you suggest we keep trying this peer, hoping it will be connectable? how many times?
just because you're frustrated with some peers that you can't connect to, doesn't mean that i have to remake whole site and change all the working ways into working 5x harder ways,,
after reading through all this thread's new posts, the only viable question i saw was about half-opens. i understand you got a leg in with sysop now, but that doesn't mean i will be nurturing your every doubts... i read forums and answer posts when i find them requiring so or find myself willing to.

You misunderstood something. I never suggested this as a change of the site, it were simple questions. I'm trying to make the site become more alive, and torrents not being seeded or seeded with 0.1 kB/s appeared as a problem to me, so I asked if this is common, nothing more.
And yes, seeders I can't connect to I don't see as seeders. The comment about the modems was a joke, I know nobody uses them anymore.
I'm still glad that I found this site, but if you think I ever only spent one thought on "you nurturing me" or using you in any way for my own goals, you're as wrong as you could be. I saw you as a friendly person and I'm friendly too. Because of that, I made myself thoughts about how to improve this site and you yourself asked how we could get more activity to it, I'm just trying to help, because that's just how I am. I'm guessing the sharp tone actually isn't ment to be that sharp, and that you just didn't know what to think of my post and that you were asking honest questions. Don't think, that you being SysOP changes even one thing for me, things like that don't matter for me. I'm friendly, because I think friendlyness is something good, I try to help, because imo. helping is below the few good things that humans actually do to each other, and the reason why you and I have contact is, because you always answered to my posts, not because I tried to get contact to SysOP for whatever.
Keep cool .

i mean, how important was it for me to confirm that "yes, despite the fact that site says 'seeders' and 'downloaders' on every torrent page, and yes, even with slow or zero upload speed, although site has no way of reallu knowing how fast some seed uploads to others, site does consider such slow peers as seeds, because they seeds report themselves as such. this is the fragility of torrent system. tracker acts upon what peer tells it. if peer hides some info or falsifies other - tracker has close to zero chance of checking it. peer to peer communications only involve tracker at the very first step.
i don't know why i have to chew all this info... unconnectable peer are called unconnectable because noone can connect to them. they can initiate connection and connect to other connectable peers. this is why being not connectable cuts off half of the communications, and 80% of the chances to seed are lost. such peers usually sit quiet, get updated with tracker, get list of downloaders, try to connect to them 1 time, most likely fail, and wait for next refresh in up to 1.5 hrs.

I edited my last post, it's better and easier understandable now. Maybe you want to read it again.
Everybody has limits. I neither was nor am planning to go against those .
And not everything I write is of major importance, sometimes I also only post, because I noticed that active posting from someone causes others to become more active too.
This site having more active seeders would be good though, I'm actually trying to download torrents from TM-radio that aren't really that old for about a week already, and they're all at 0%. It's no real problem though, as I can simply make re-seed-requests for all of them, once I got the points.

Sry, I actually only wrote you a PM, because the question about the half-open connections was really important to me. You have a lot more knowledge about the torrent system and seed a crazy amount of torrents (crazy for me) , and I thought that you could give me an expert answer towards that question.
All of the posts about seeders not being connectable and seeders not actually seeding were only written because I wondered about that. They also weren't directly adressed at you, but also at others. Maybe I shouldn't have posted those things at all, but as I said, activity produces activity, so it also could simply have happened that 10 users jump onto the thread and say "I have the same problem" , then everything would have been ok, so I saw it as a chance. :/
[EDIT]
We can see this as a test, if the forum doesn't become more active after such drama, then there's little that would help . Sry.
A side of this has frustrated me too...,
There are two users who share large amount of torrents but have upload restricted to 1kbs. If you look a little deeper into the files you are trying to download, you can find out who. I haven't looked in more recent time, but 9-10 months ago this was the case when I looked to expand my music collection. In the end I found my musical needs else where.
These files are shown as active and seeding but really aren't..,,

@Seraiel: is all good. day to day i react differently.
@Moocowdan: as i said, there's very little we can do about it. as you may remember the "Bulgarian Phenomenon", was it Bulgaria? i think so... the time back in 2007-08 maybe, when everyone had slow upload speed, but within same city Bulgare would uypload to each other at crazy speeds (back then) of 10-20 mbps. and then after seeded to each other, their swarm would start uploading to other countries, and seeded lots of stuff this way very nicely... why do i say that? cause it;s same shit... only the opposite way...

@slash - yeah i remember that occurring. Control the things which we can control is the smart way to go.
There is a healthy collection of electronic music here at great speeds, it is just that 1 or 2 mixes which you really want from some part of the past which would be nice to have.

Personally not bothered on speeds.. All my clients run headless and email me when they're done... ;>

recently i;ve enabled multi-scrape, so capable clients request info for several dozen torrents at a time, making scraping process way more efficient.
Multi-scrape was enabled by default setting in my uTorrent-client already. I'm using version 2.2.1 like you, but probably a different build.
