and he is giving it up a little bit, no?
ps. i kinda understand his policy thou.. one of the longest running and definitely the most listened to show on the planet, => they are obligated to bring in all kinds of "new" artistry, like those hardwells, aviciis, scubas and other skreams...

Glad to see some people start thinking like me.

Emata... thought like this for a long time.. the bbc is delusional at best.. mis represented in what is good music pandering to the masses spoon feeding shit continually across the airwaves.... they have lost any sense of direction of great music which they pioneered from the early 90s when I started to listen (1994) to the essential mix (and selection) shortly after its incarnation in 1993

As a new member to tribalmixes.com, I'm interested to see how this thread develops. I started listening to the essential mix in 1998 and tuned in regularly for years, up until the last 12-18 months. I don't bother anymore as the quality has gone so far downhill... Which dj's would you like to see them broadcast to turn it around in 2014?

Its a lost cause unfortunately...the bbc is far from forward thinking, too many other great radio shows now stand taller and higher... transitions, drumcode and frisky radio with the likes of Lemon8, Fernando, Dave Seaaman, Nick Warren and co..

bbc is just another capitalist conglomerate, even with all their documentaries and world justice and stuff, they are still a huge money making machine.
secondly, why would they cater to us, the lovers of some old antique music style(s)? for each long standing fan they lose, they gain 10 new fans, those of electro and dubstep and trap and other crap. it's not like you been paying some fees for 14 years you listened to EM, right?
they can afford to lose listeners (and gain listeners) as they wish... their site is just a few places shy of being in the top 50 most visited sites in the world, so that means tens of millions of daily visitors. of course most just come for news, but still hundreds of thousands are listening to the radio, most live over FM in UK, i would expect.. anyways, with such a flow of potential listeners, they can afford to lose any number of listeners, even devoted ones.
but yeah, even among popular DJs there are still many who do proper progressive beats. i'm sure we'd all agree to hear some great techno EM, or some tech-minimal set, or even some sweet breaks/dnb music... there are 100s of world-famous djs who fit this profile.. Hernan hasn't been on since 2008. Guy J never been there.. eeh...

Oh yes and the Essential Mix...well it continues to be misinformed playing and showcasing utter rubbish...oh yes and lets not forget when there is the opportunity to shine...well you fuck it up... classic case... this weekend with the 20th Warehouse Project in Manchester... Sasha on for an hour (oh thats so great /sarchasm/) then Tong and Eats Everything back to back for an hour...well thats another year to write off...
Why not give it up..because honestly its a joke from start to finish!
