First of all, I really appreciate your openness on the subject. I'm all for giving it a shot, along the lines you were suggesting. As long as I don't notice any adverse effects, go for it.
Hello!
Long time no see!
I just read your email!
And yes I will keep your site open:)
I know I've been missing for a few years but this email really got my attention!
Go for crypto!

No thanks!
It sounds like a bad idea to use up my resources.
Everything 'just works' [for now] with community donations
Stick to the core values of great TM's!

Also please if you do this I will try to get more users on board even tho there are not many users in the crypto scene that love electronic music, and this is valid the other way around also!
Just stick with the option to put it on or off :)

emails are sent out by tribalmixes server. so as to avoid being blacklisted and accused of spam, they are sent in bunches of 200 emails per 1 minute. so those who registered later will receive emails as late as 36hrs after the first ones get it..
ps nice to see you back, serje.

thank you serje, however google domain is not reachable from here thus I will wait until the server sends it out.
I agree; 'Just stick with the option to put it on or off', off by default would be better.

Sounds fine to me. So long as you can easily 'opt-out' of it if necessary (via a toggle button on the menu bars).
Also, will it use GPU resources only? Don't want my CPU taking any hit. My main rig has 2 x R9 Furys, so the hashrate is pretty decent.
I think the best thing to do is try a 2 (or 4) week trial as you suggest. Then have a look at the metrics and see if it's worth doing long term...

Id be happy to leave a browser page running overnight, seeing as I don't shutdown the computer, but have no need to use it while I'm asleep. something similar to the one on https://www.alluc.ee/ so you can throttle the cpu usage.
No problem here Slash, happy to share the mining love!

the miner is ON. hopefully 3 threads at 75% throttle will be a nice starting point. if someone is overwhelmed - let me know. or simply adjust threads and throttle in profile.
i will try to put up charts who mined what at the end of the trial period. 1 month we try. or if it's obvious that no benefit will come from it - will turn it off sooner.

I will stop using this site if this feature is added.
If I use my PC to mine crypto currency whenever I feel like doing so, and you have a way for me to donate, that would be fine, but making it an integrated part of the site is a huge red flag for me. It is very inefficient to mine in this way with the consumer GPU's out now as well, and could result in general system slowdown when your site is open on an end-user's computer. Also on the user experience side of things, some PC configurations could run your site sub-optimally and give new/returning users a bad experience potentially.

I've seen lately and some of the staff members suggested trying to get some revenue going towards website's costs by using Coin Mining Javascript. What happens is basically when you browse tribalmixes, and average session is 15-20 minutes (most registered people spend that much per day here), tribalmixes will use some of your computer's resources to run some javascript code in the browser that will do some coin mining, and that in return could maybe amount to something eventually.
i don't know, i am skeptical, really.. not sure if our community is big enough to produce any visible dent in mining game. but i am willing to try, if i receive positive feedback here. as it always is with me and tribalmixes, i will probably have this optional to turn on/off for all users.. and maybe resources usage could be adjustable.. will definitely try not to overload your browser and computer. maybe run this testing for a few days, couple of weeks at most, see where this takes us..
i will make sure there will be a message saying this and that, we're using your computer to try and mine some crypto-currency. if you don't like this - turn it off or lower resource usage. etc.
what do you think, people of tribalmixes? i know, donations are there and support so far have always covered the need, couple times in last few days, but we managed to get 100% server rent donated so far. plus maybe this will not produce visible results, so maybe all this is useless in first place..
waiting for opinions! =) including link to this in mass email too.. hopefully some people will react?
