Hum, i think you guys do not have a notion of the problem really. Tenaglia receives thousands of promo tracks that he plays in his gigs, the decision of not allowing to record the sets are a way of protecting the music and the artists because people WILL RIP any unreleased track for exchange in a P2P network, I know this cause it has happened to me before!!! I was once where you are now, on the fan spot, but being on the other side is a whole different world... Hopefully you guys will understand that the music needs to be protected. You can't imagine how little we gain from making music, and if an unreleased track is on the net, it will ruin the label's release and the artist's income.
All the best.

Well, my friend, as everything in life, there are different points of view and you HAVE to accept his. You want sets, he doesn't want them recorded and I understand why he does not want people to record the shows, I've tried to explain that it is a matter of protecting the artists and a matter of consciousness, it's not an issue that you can compare with other dj's.
Anyway, that gives you a shot of listening to other artists and to go to parties, after all that's what this is all about, partying and clubbing :)
Big hug mate.

He's the artist making the set and he should have the right to decide how his music is shared or not shared. Personally I love DT and haven't been able to see him since I live in Vancouver, Canada and he never comes here. He is more of an idol to me since I have listened to very few sets of his and don't really know what he'll play. Where as someone like Angello plays pretty much the same tracks at every event and going to his show won't surprise me with the music.
well its his right of course if he doesnt want his sets recorded ...but why let the ppl enjoy ur music every where part of being a role model like dt is opening urself up to the fans not just to the ppl who pay money ...and that phrase about the party can never be captured on film is a little way off :/ dont be so dramatic dt and chill uve been in this bussines long enough to be acting like this
Well from my experience being on DT live party cannot be recorded on any tape and the music that you hear when you listen his sets just don't touch you the same way.
Only a person thaqt have listen to him live can understand when another such person is trying to tell what he have experienced there so here i can understand him not alowing being recorded.
But from the other side as a music addict of course I would like to have more chances to listen to his music and of course I'm for more recordings of his sets.
Lets flood his myspace and website with messages about that hahah

a lot of good points guys, but look at both sides for these main points,
1) you can't keep getting upset at DT for not coming to your country, purely because, somebody has to bring him over - for example, a club/night promoter or a record label - if they don't ask him to come play then how is he meant to come over? he can't just go holidaying with a bunch of records and expect a party to pop up for him (although if he did id throw him a party! )
and 2) some people love to be on camera and to be recorded, some people dont, dt might not be camera shy, but comparing him to sven vath (who absolutely loves the camera!) is abit over the top.
its not just about the artists being ripped off and not making money - cos really music is a thing of love and passion and it should be free for everyone, but its about the night, the party and the experience. (of course business is a part of this) but being at the gig is much better than listening to the live set/watching the video - but i must say, i enjoy getting a glimpse of something i can't see or hear just because i missed out on it.
anyway guys, hope everyones well and are enjoying some lovely tunes

Legendary New York-based DJ and producer Danny Tenaglia has recently posted some thoughts on his blog about him being "YouTube-d" and the unauthorized recording and distribution of his DJ sets.
According to Tenaglia "the essence of an event cannot be captured or portrayed on video, and it greatly diminishes what people are experiencing live". He also points out that in most top DJ's contracts today, one of the first things on the list is "No Recording Without Permission From the Artist," which is often violated.
As an example, he brings up his July 2006 performance at Monegros Desert Festival in Spain: "I agreed to the first 10 minutes. They recorded more than one hour and played it on the radio in Spain! Could I sue? Yes! Is it worth my time, money, and all my good energy being spent on such nonsense - no".
Tenaglia's party concept, "Be Yourself," presumably means not caring what you do and how you look like; so what's wrong with being "YouTube-d" then? "I think most of the time I would not mind, but there are some times that I get extremely upset because there are certain moments that were simply not meant to be recorded," comments Tenaglia. "Why do some people feel they have a right to publicly broadcast ME? It's truly unfair and extremely disrespectful to me, and any artist or person," he added.
To wrap things up, he says that "something needs to be done amongst all of us DJ's soon to make a strong statement together to say: Please stop disrespecting us!"
I agree about recording the sets but the video stuff is a bit petty. Danny Tenaglia is a celebrity to many clubbers and should calm down about "being YouTube-d". And by the way.. I'm wondering what Sven Vath has to say about all that YouTube-ing. I suspect he doesn't mind at all.
Please do not Youtube me anymore! [via Dtourism]
