Should We allow downloads w/o Registration (drop Private)???, page 2
Let's try it out and then evaluate the results. I would prefer to have stronger pro-member only options (like accessing the search, top charts, etc) so at least a small part of one-time leechers/visitors would register and become regular. And of course communicate those advantages of free membership with the visitors.
i voted yes in the poll...but after thinking for a while...i say NO.....i spent years in here,,,sharing music,,,gaining ratio & above all appreciation...so why should we allow someone to get all these stuff without even pressing a couple of buttons...megapacks & stuff u wont find anywhere else will be just hit & never seeded again...we can try it for a couple of days in TM anniversary, get some new users then ask them to register after a while...

its a bad idea , what do we have to gain?
the only folk i can see argueing yes are those looking to promote themselves.
if folk dont want to register for the site then they dont deserve to get anything from it.

Fact: I spend as much time on TM (probably more), then on other massive sites like Youtube, facebook, hotmail, myspace. And all of those other sites require registration.
Do only corporate controlled information gathering sites have the right to ask for a registration? Not us nice guys at TM who don't want to trouble to the delicate and time pressed user?
I say SCREW the user, if he really wants the music he will spend two minutes to register and SUPPORT the whole comunity. Otherwise he can waste his time and energy (probably more then 2 minutes) looking for it on other sites. If you want something , you have to make an effort. I mean the artist makes an effort to produce the music, the DJ makes an effort to mix it, people like Slash make the effort to build sites like these to share it, and the end user SHOULD have to make an effort to hear it.
I have other relevant reasons not to make torrents public but I won't write you guys a book.

also agree with you bazzer! might we can try this in a couple of days, but I don't think that this helps to someone and have a reason to do that!
I also was spending a lot of time to get my ratio good with not so good internet! and It was hard, but ofcourse I am not regret my time, It was interesting and exciting !!! and I think you also guys remember this ''time'' with good word! so those people who also want's to be part of us....must also walk all this hard road like we had this and then they can download what ever they like! (I think It's minimum what we ask from everyone) I am not speaking about uploading and donating....what is really important and our website needs this!!
Yes, I am not uploaded here nothing , but I very good understand uploaders, who spend a lot of time to share music on this website.......to surprise everyone with something new! Big TNX THEM for doing this job!
heh...now I am thinking better slash didn't offer idea like this ......but Its ok, we communicate, we discuss we decide!
and how do you think guys......might we can request something esle ??!
sorry for my bad english!

you need to look in here: https://tribalmixes.com/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=5622 ... this topic was just started a few days ago, it was specially made (by users) for users to "request something else".
on the other hand, some grand-ideas like this one (PVT vs PUB), that can generally affect everyone in the community, should and need be discussed within the community. a very easy example: a few years back i've changed everything greatly when introduced AJAX into the system, and started loading all pages through AJAX. after it was done, and it was a huge project, i've had a poll on main page asking how people liked the change... 2/3 of people approved. 1/3 of them disapproved. i honestly think that recent stagnation and decrease in site's users' activity over the last 2 years have had to do with that AJAX change, if not directly, then indirectly, stealthily, but i do think that many people have left because of AJAX and its peculiarities...
that is why nowadays i try to have everyone (who cares) voice their opinion before the change actually happens. no quantity of the possible "new users" will replace the "good old ones" who decide to leave the community when the site becomes half-public (or when any other major change is introduced).

Definitely No!
I say NO
Maybe I would like to have many leeches , maybe some more rankings and comments , but i personally my self used to get music from every where to upload to tribalmixes as an exclusive set or at least the 2nd over the web !!
I upgraded my connection which was ADSL 512 kb/s to ADSL 4 MB connection just to make sure that users of this website is going to get everything in the best speed provided in my country also to share as much as i can from what i do get from here ..... don't have to say that i have many external Hard disks having most of the packs and music from this website, i just bought them to be a back up for the music in here . ( Upgrading Connection cost a fortune , also the HDDs )
Also ppl who donated before was donating to the community to keep this website alive , so do you think they donated just to keep this website alive to help runners to leech and get what they want without a simple thanks like keep the torrents in their torrent client .
I don't think that there is any other easier way for a registration form you can find in any other website for torrents or else like ours , maybe you can find similar but there is no easier !!
we can grant new comers like 10 GB download and state this user as n00b till he reaches his first 10 GB upload .
Maybe a Brief about how Easy the website is or a site map for letting ppl get reach to everything easier from the first page they get on will be better than granting a free download !
Also a brief about how the website is containing a huge library of Music and Information about the whole EDM !

In short.....
the Pros and Cons are both convincing, I see it will not harm to test and see if this will benefit or harm TM by the bandwidth and hit and runs etc...
to see if this will benefit us we have to see a considerable increase in the registered users in the THE Time frame. and if we have more activity on the site etc.
if this will harm us there will only be hit runs and clearly we will know thats this a bad idea.
the time frame i propose which i know a lot of ppl will disagree with should be 6 months
that will give us enough time to evalute the situation, and then we can discuss it and have a poll again to see what ppl think
the evaluation part i mean the *nova* indexing, will take time and that search engine crawlers to point traffic to TM will not happen right away it will take time so its for sure that the first month of being public will be any of harm there are other technical things i have no idea about
this is my view on the point

La petite mort
I voted NO.
I don't like changes :)
I like this community as is, and I don't want hit'n'runs.
Registering takes maybe 2-3 minutes (I don't exactly remember, it wasn't yesterday when I registered :) ). If someone is incapable of that, then there's nothing to say.
But who knows what's gonna happen if we become public, it might even do us good.
I didn't like the new design of the web page at first, but I got used to it and I wouldn't change it back :)

I am a supporter of torrents simply because of their practicality for my own personally circumstances, many people don't bother having a torrent program running or maybe even their computer switched on at all apart from when their using it.
Having thought about this a little more I don't think I'm that for or against whatever course this Registration debate goes.
Like many have said 'It only take a few minutes to register' .
So maybe on the internet their are many people who think 'why bother firstly visiting Tribalmixes and Registering to get music, when their are a thousand and one sites that I can download music Instantly and directly onto my mp3 player within 2 minutes (depending on file size, bandwidth etc)'
Tribalmixes takes a little more getting in too or learning, especially for people who may be just getting interested in electronic/dance music & have a limited amount of pc knowledge and possibly time they can spend when they first visit this site.
And it may of been only this initial interests in music that got them to this site in the first place .So lets presume they do decide to register. How do I download these torrent thingys? ,then installing a torrent program and learning to configure and use it .Can I download all I want like 'direct link' sites or will I be banned for downloading two many mixes or made to feel ungrateful simply because I'm not into writing comments on websites?,
mmmmm......?
Think I will just go back to www.directeasy&quit.com.
And another electronic/dance music fan never gets past the first hurdle of signing up to experience the Tribalmixes community .
And to find out that their is a small learning curve but that's because Tribalmixes is a well thought out community site and most of the features are to implement the music & help the users out.
open up a little and maybe let people see what their missing out on .Or stay small with policies that stop 'casual' internet users getting to be serious tribalmixes users .
As far as I'm concerned provided the site is relatively secure with it's current numbers then why bother changing?.
Does Tribalmixes want/need a large amount of users?.
Is quatity/size a true indicator of success?.
Do I ask too many questions?.
Should I just S.T.F.U. & Dance
hehe
Music is physics brought to life with biology.
I Think Willy is right, but the 1 month free trial period is good idea, let's see what will happen !!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that if you intend to open things up,then it should only be with new uploads, and keep the megapacks and the archives only for those who have taken the time to register.I have seen over my time here many who have been banned from downloading for bad ratio on the very torrents that are gonna be made available for free, and that simply isn`t fair.
