search engine ranking is a very complicated thing too. one thing i know very clearly - to be ranked high on a keyword or phrase you pursuit, that is where backlinks play a very big role, and backlinks with the anchor text being that phrase are the most important of them all. being ranked high in results is a normal thing, and at that time it can fluctuate dozens of pages up and down, it's ok, but the real battle starts when you reach first 5 pages.. as i said before, or should have said, tribalmixes was an example of how SEO should not be done ever on any site. most of the site was closed from google's access. especially when i switched whole site to AJAX in 2008, - was groundbreaking technology, twitter and facebook only started using AJAX in 2010-11, - but not readable by google at that time, so gradually the buzz around tribalmixes went down, and it fell in world ranking from 15k top sites in 2007 to around 300k in 2011.. and i started all from the scratch, and SEO involved only summer 2011..

and so my main goal keyword for now is "dj mixes", i started on 5th page in summer, now tribalmixes shows up 10-12th result, top of second page. or "download dj mixes" - 6-9th now on first page, also from 5th page up. and many other keywords and phrases, including "dj torrents" - 1st page, "download club mixes" - 1st page, "dj mix torrent", etc. not looking, but got it as a sideshow of being a torrent tracker - tribalmixes is strong in keyword "torrent". i guarantee you if search google for "any-dj-name torrent" - tribalmixes will be if not on first page then on second page.

anyways, a fresh example if power of anchor-backlinks.. some time ago i went around and posted a bunch of links everywhere for tm dj list SKRILLEX page. and i guess it worked so well, that in next few weeks tm's result for skrillex in google has moved up from 10th page up to 1st page, producing about 400k monthly impressions in search for skrillex widh over 6k clicks, and that search produces many millions of results.. with time it fell back though, and now steve aoki produces more impressions for tribalmixes than skrillex, about 60k monthly, but nowhere near peak fame of 400k impressions. if it were always first result - it would have done about 200k clicks per month...

anyways, here's a link of a tool i use, it's good for checking your ranking in search engines, it checks 3 major ones for you, if you don't notice your site resulting there right away - try to pick a better search phrase, if anything - copy a piece of text from any page and paste there just to see

also note, google has over 60% of searches, bing and yahoo about 10%, the rest 30% belongs to youtube, which is not a search engine, but people like to search there for stuff...

global google page rank increase happened last night.. i am not quite satisfied with it, but as i said before, i have no idea how to work link juice so that my page rank would increase where i want it to, but oh well.. some day i'll learn..

on the other hand, bidona, as i said before, your site's main page has PR 3 now. next step - 4 - is very hard to get. and 5 is impossible.. i dunno how other sites do it.. the only PR 10 site is google...

PR3 is better than 2 as you said both. i know 4 is hard and 5 is harder but not impossible. so, we are on a mission again. and i was not satisfied as well as i used to be on 10th and now im sucking 18th. the thing is happening once in a 3 months? not very good news for me. TM is still pr4 than? i was told some sites have we say 5 on the main page but 4 or 3 on the sub pages, sounds fair enough.

yeah, most of the time main page gets highest rank, sometimes thou you can come across the opposite. i didn't believe it until found a site like that - main page 4, and some other page - 6. it's not the page rank that affects your search engine rankings, but an array of about 200 factors... SEO is a complicated thing... as i told you, bouncing from 10th page to 18 and back is normal. the closer you get to first page - the smaller bumps will be (like falling from 15th spot to 19th spot).. only the first few spots stay strong and rarely change.. tm is still 4. i know sites with three times the traffic and only PR 2 on main page.. it's all weird and complicated.. and search results ranking changes every day. it;s just google PR - once every 3 months. don't get stuck on this, it's not much relevant, it just exists for SEO people to obsess about.. =)
