What do you think ? which is better ? Owning a truckload of Renaissance or Global Underground CD's or a whole bunch of Live Sets & Essential Mixes?

I'll wait for some opinions before I post mine :) All are welcome

It equals for me:

Live sets are good for fresh music and listening to them on iPod but I'm enjoying commercial mixes over severl years because the sound is great. Live mixes on radio and clubs are mostly too heavy squashed. Can't really pump up the volume on my stereo   But commercial cds today are squashed too and it's very difficult to find well sounding cd because of the 'loudness race'.

I want to own the music I like so I'm buying cds, vinyls and so on. And that's the difference. Will you listen to your GBs of mp3s in 30 years ? I doubt. But can celebrate your vinyl or cds

Another point: I'm giving respect to DJs, producers when I buy cd, vinyl !

moderator - what the hell are you talking about ? who's ripping CD's here ? take your auto message elsewhere please!

i think that Live sets are great , but for a short time only .. the tracks become outdated quickly ...
but CD's tracks are timeless ..

  • When you are talking to a moderator .. you MUST show some respect and be nice

  • There are unforgettable livesets from 2000 and earlier

  • The tracks in any commercial CD are mixed by the same DJ in his livesets !!!

  • Livesets are always equipped with rare, unknown and exclusive remixes unlike commercial CD which usually contains the known or the original mix

  • What bo12 said is TOTALLY true

Dear Zahran if you think that dj's do not make money spinni'n live you are wrong.  Some dj's like Carl Cox, AVB, Tiesto, etc get paid near 10.000 american dollars per hour of a set live.  Now if that's not a lot of money I don't know what is.  And Sasha has at least Ten Residencies going at the moment.  Sasha I expect signs contract with super clubs all around the world to do monthly or bi- monthly gigs.  I do not know the exact fiqures for these contracts but believe me when I say these dj's are getting paid BIG BUCKS for spinnin regularly in such cities as NYC, Chicago, London, Paris, Etc.  And then there are the summer festivals and Ibiza all MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

I have respect for both Live sets and Records and mixed tapes.  Lets all remember that the real heros of this type of music are the PRODUCERS, THEY MAKE THE MUSIC.  Props to dj's but most of them are spinni'n other peoples records while producing a few hits.  DJ'S DO NOT SPIN SIX HOUR SETS OF THERE OWN MUSIC.  The producers fill the dj's sets with Bangi'n tunes

PROPS TO THE PRODUCERS

AND PLEASE HAVE RESPECT FOR THE MODS THEY RUN THIS PLACE.  IT IS A COMMUNITY BUT WITHOUT THEM WE WOULD BE LOST.

i dont see why all people here is getting pumped up and also a little nervous
if i want to get a commercial cd i will buy it with money, if i want to get a ripped radio show i'll get it on tribalmixes...
if i really like something i'll pay for it...and this makes commercial cds better imo
    i never heard anything like:

john digweed - global underground 014 - honk kong
    john digweed - mmII
    chris fortier - bedrock 003
    hernan cattaneo - sequential

if i notice a little scratch on my originals of those 4 i could cry for days :'-(  :'-(

you mean that creamer and stephane k bedrock? it is awesome. as for cds vs livesets i would say, tribalmixes covers all my music needs, so i rarely buy music.
