Talion, page 1

State of Trance episodes from Talion have this undercurrent of noise that really detracts from the sound quality.  It is not apparent in all Talion torrents.  For example, some State of Sundays Talion torrents sound normal.  I notice on TM there is almost always non-Talion State of Trance options which are superior.  This is just an observation for the group.  Use this information as you best see fit.

Cheers CM for that info.... I noted your comment on that ASOT file....

With the amount of mixes that are recorded and put out through Talion, they can't and won't be checked regularly. Hissing and background noise like that may go undetected for ages....

The Di.fm premium stream is a good thing! Excellent quality, especially when you find something you like and want to turn it up! This is where weekly GDJB and ASOT come from on the main download page...

Maybe they rip the State of Sundays from satellite radio? Sirius XM is it?
Never been convinced of the sound quality of that source.
Although that might not necessarily have anything to do with it in this case.

there was actually a heated up discussion: SPASV vs others, where he SpasV was telling that it's possible to get very good quality recordings from Sirius XM, i am lazy to look for thread now, but here's his url https://www.tribalmixes.com/userdetails.php?id=28890 check his uploads for packs filed under misc... check details of any of them..

From what I can gather off the net, Sirius uses the PAC codec (I'm not familiar with it at all) and this is in VBR - from an mp3 'equivalent' bitrate of 128K up to 320K.

But that's just approximate of course.

I think the online service is done in m4a (AAC) at about 128K.

I don't know if this is VBR or CBR?

Can anyone add any meat to the bones?

As a further point, I think the sound quality of the present streams is likely now higher than it was in the past (when Sirius used to come in for some stick).

So perhaps the reputation for poor sound quality is a little out of date?

What do you guys in the USA think? Living in Europe I don't have access you see!
