The electronic music culture is a ,culture evolved, indirectly from a consequence of scientific discovery .The  drugs in the club culture are mostly drugs that scientists initially synthesized from plant extracts for medical research .

Many people take the appliance of science for granted ( I know I did) . They  use electronic and electrical objects throughout their lives without thinking that they are using the products of science.
Think about ALL the music on tribalmixes . It has been produced,recorded and shared using 100% tools that have been invented by science .Without science there would be no electronic music .
Without science there would be no internet.Without science human beings would not have the capability to live a modern lifestyle .

Of course because humans are the ones using science.We are capable of being productive or destructive, science can be used for the good or bad of our society's .

But what is science?
 

Science is based on simply a method .In it's essence it's really quite simple ( Though it tries to understand some massively complex systems ) Underpinning science is the scientific method . A system that users peer review (other scientists ) to find out the facts .In other words, the more scientist can show by experimentation that something is happening the way they think it's happening, the more the scientific community accepts it as being real.

Anybody can use the scientific method to gauge weather something is more likely to be real or not.

First you start out with a idea that you'd like to try and prove as right or wrong . (A professional scientist will not start out being biased ,that is he/she must follow the evidence and not try to shape the evidence to fit their ideals, as so many non-scientists do    ) .

As we don't live in a ideal world shaped by our dreams .i.e -  we live in a physically world shaped by physical processors ( volcanoes - rivers - weather etc )   The only way to get at whats really going on in the real world is by testing the physical world ,then shaping our beliefs to match these new discovery.That's just what science does .Science isn't a fixed belief  .As mentioned before, science is merely the framework on which to build a evidence based way of thinking about the world and our place in it .

For comparison,Science is a different way to think than faith based belief .science is skeptical (doubt) .i.e - To find the "truth" ,you first begin by doubting  your idea-it may just be wrong . You then use the scientific method to try and find any reasons that may prove your idea as wrong .After you have tried every way(experiment) possible to show this "truth" or idea is not true, and the idea  still remains a in tact as possible, then the odds are more in favor of it really being a truth. Then many other scientists will also test out your idea ,if they all come up with the same results the idea gains credibility.(This is how evolution was  tested .And finally proved beyond doubt by the discovery of genetics and how these chemicals within our cells in our body's are the same as the cells in all other animals .And the animal that has genetics the most similar to humans is the chimpanzee . )

Now that's  rather different than faith.With faith  people begin by hoping something is true.Then  the individual or group will try to strive to find ways or look for evidence to make it seem more true, whilst denying or simply over looking anything which may prove to them that their faith is based on nonsense or blinding hope .

so the next time your on the Dance floor and feeling the beats .It's worth a thought that science gave you the electronic music.Science can help keep those dancing feet planted firmly in the physics that's constantly happening all around you .

Go easy on those brain chemistry altering drugs though . Because of the infinite pathways the neurons in you brain can make, your quite capable of thinking anything you wish or dare to dream of   .
The scientific method can help anyone to be more sure which of those thoughts are based on reality and which are more likely to be a figment of the imagination .
