see, you talking about describing uploads, and we are talking about comments on those uploads by those who downloaded them already... is this a COMMUNITY DRIVEN WEBSITE??? or a place where 20 people do all the work, and users just come over, leisurely read what set is interesting, because not only it was RECOMMENDED to them by just being on tribalmixes, backed by one of the uploaders, possibly rated or commented upon by those who feel they ought to or maybe even want to comment once in a while..
we're aiming to have a community where we - the staff - don't do all the work. yes, we do have uploading power of several GIGABIT, we, just us, just the 20-30 people of staff. and "staff" is just a way to differ, and nothing else, right, so all of us do this for fun and for others along the way, but those others don't want to do like we do, to be friendly and comment and rate and what not, just take and leave..
this is a choice everyone on tribalmixes faces now: be a part of one of the oldest dj mixes communities on the net, or just move over to some faceless site like mixing-bj or livesets-bj or livesets-at or many others...
we bring music, we share, we etc, => we want others who use our work to do something as well.
and share-ratio, it is in most part to make users earn some extra points and spend those points on share-ratio growth, and points can only be earned via some community-input... i am sure you see the point.. you are a smart dude, afair.. =)

These are valid questions which has been bounced around many times, more of recent times.... I am happy that a user of many years has stopped to offer their opinion and thoughts. After all this is a music community of thousands....
Slash i think it would be worthwhile quoting the ratio of users who fall below the minimum ratio requirements. The figure for me is astonishing. This makes the tightening of ratio rules make much more sense when you see that ratio. After all we are trying to promote a community not just a place to get the latest electronic music. Sure, we could continue but the direction is to build a brighter, stronger, more interactive music community.
Slash and staff have introduced ideas and manipulated the website to make it user friendly throughout the years i have been here, the general consensus is that there needs to be more than 20-30 keeping this site up to date with new material and general electronic music goodness. Tightening the ratio rules creates a need for users to not only download the mix, seed it, listen to it and comment, all of which they will receive reward for. Of course, those willing to go the extra step and talk about the mix in the forums get rewarded even more. Win, Win for djs, staff, new users, the community and people like yourself looking for insight into a great mix.

I'm a little disappointed in the posting requirements. I hit up the shoutbox when I have something to add, not the forum. It's a shame that I'll lose my Power User status after 8 years and a ratio of 48. And honestly, spamming the boards really isn't my style.

I agree. I'm also not sure what the post requirement will do to the quality of the posts, should I post some random stuff I find on 9gag?
But rules are rules, I'll try to get my status back...

1. Why is this moaning? You guys been downloading music for years, and now can't put a few posts?
2. You have 4 weeks for 10 posts. 1 post in 3 days. Now hard can that be?
On the topic of comments, I have to admit that it is easy to download a bunch of things and then listen to them over the next days / weeks and not remember to come back and comment/rate/thank for the upload. At minimum now I seed everything I download starting about 2 months ago, to try to give back. However, I wish there was some easier way to remember to come back and comment.
Slash - I have an idea that I saw on another site called kickass.to. When you are logged in to the site then every time you download it adds to the number counter on the feedback link at the top as a reminder to how many downloads you've made and haven't left feedback on yet. Of course you can ignore it or reset the list, but at least it gives a way to track what you've downloaded and not commented on yet. What do you think?

make love to the canvas
First, let me state clearly that this is a nice site with good material. However, demoting people from power user to user because they have under "A set Amount" of post is ridiculous. User status should be determined by one thing, and one thing only, ratio/upload/download. While I understand the need to facilitate conversation among users in the form of post and comments, they should be genuine (User initiated) essentially what your are doing is forcing people to be disingenuous to keep there respective classes.
I am sure someone will come along and flame me for my comment. However, this is how I feel and is no way intended to offend.

I really ask myself how i should fix my share ratio if i only download the unpopular sets.
in my eyes this is a big problem for guys like me, i barely got my share ratio up to 0.04 and now i have a warning and cant upload anything anymore ??

slash, I still don't see the point. You are mad because you think the staff's work is not appreciated (enough)? We are missing the community's feedback? Well, since I'm part of this community, let's talk about this topic:
I was part of the djmixes2k.com community/uploaders back in the days. We had big releases, everybody was doing their fullest to get high quality livesets and bring them to people who share the love for EDM. Whenever something was uploaded, people appreciated it, posted comments and left feedback. What was different about it compared to TM? Absolutely nothing, except one thing: the pace. TM has an incredible fast pace!
What is this fast pace about? I look for interesting sets, download them, listen to them and want to tell others about it. Did I like the tracks? How was the composition? (Is the audio quality fine?) I download the set on day X, listen to it on day Y and want to rate and comment it on day Z. So I visit TM and ... wait what? In the meantime, 34 new sets were uploaded. The sets I listened to are now on page 2 or even 3. Oh look at this, there are new sets, let's download them and listen to them as soon as possible so I can rate and comment fast enough to "actually matter" ("be seen by others").
Seriously, sometimes I need to check 4-6 pages backwards after the last visit just to barely catch up. And the reason is not because of being a lazy bum and re-visiting but having to listen to all the sets I downloaded first. But whenever I come back to post comments about the sets, nobody cares anymore. And this is basically how every single comment section ends up. The community does not have the chance to discuss sets because on the next day, there's already a bunch of new stuff we COULD talk about. And this goes on and on and on. All that's left are "thanks" posts and I'm sure you are not talking about them.
Don't get me wrong. I am NOT complaining about the work of any TM staff member, hell I wish I could join the uploaders once again (but time is not on my side). IMO the fast pace is just the main reason why the community doesn't provide that much feedback after all. It's just like that, I think.
The forums... some like them, many do not. This is not a TM related problem but rather a general one. The reddit trend pretty much sums it up. Structured (sub-)forums are old-school. I myself prefer the comments to talk to people or share my thoughts on the shoutbox.
About the share ratio thingy: I never had trouble with it. There is enough stuff to compensate a low upload rate as long as one is active. Actually even if I seed for days, I get barely the 1.000 rate because people download from other (faster) seeds. Can't keep up with the high speed connections in 'Murica.
And again: this is just me, but in my opinion every member of a friendly community should be able to get involved according to his own discretion. In the end, the key is to be involved in some way.
Thanks for reading. Keep up the good work TM staff, I will remain faithful. :)

A site that I'm a member of does something to combat the problem you have with only DLing and seeding less popular files: For every hour you are seeding a particular file, you get seeding credit. Those credits, in turn, can be used to buy upload or DL credit. You can also buy the ability to make DLs ratio-free, and you can gift UL or DL credit to other users.
If the gifting was allowed, I'd be happy to gift you a few gigs. In the meantime, hit up the lottery and the daily generator. You should be able to accumulate enough points to buy your way out of a low ratio.

bro, don;t get me wrong, but do please note, - i am not mad. i just want more user participation. i might be mad at facebook for taking social out of all other sites, but i am not, cause it's useless to be mad at "facebooks".. i am calm as some fucking elephant, bro, that's for sure..
1. tools have been developed in the last months to accentuate communal attention on incoming new comments. for example, recent comments box on index page and section where all comments are just shown..
2. tools were developed in last year to help one keep track of what they did and how they did it. such as new and updated user page, which, besides showcasing (or not, optional via settings) all one's actions and achievements to the world, also helps users themselves to look up their downloads to go back and comment, their uploads to check on comments, user pages also carry users' comments to
help them users track what and where they commented on and upon. forum posts section still there might help keep track of forum topics users participate in. rating one's recent downloads can still be best done off the browse page.
3. please, set 0 for your torrents per page, thus allowing for 100 torrents per page by default. it will help you alot.
4. these days, i personally enjoy reading through all the new comments and pretty much all forum posts. i am sure i am not the only freak, right? i am sure, some people go back and check their uploads, one or more than one, looking for more comments. this has been proven by numerous instant and delayed thanks from uploader to downloader who thanked them for the upload..
5. fast pace, you say? for me, first page of 100 torrents changes in 10-11 days. it is barely 10 torrents a day. sometimes it hits more, like it will on ultrafest days, but generally i very often find myself going to my hdd with megapacks and loading those into winamp, because i, for example, heard deep dish essential mix 6 times already since friday...
ps. as you might know, as i mentioned it here in forums, my request to become uploader on djmixes2k in 2005 and subsequent turn down/refusal from their team, resulted in this place being created, which existed ever since. and where is djmixes2k now?

While I'm at it: Talking about quality > quantity... when I joined TM 6 years ago, it was manageable to keep track of new torrents most of the time. But there are so many undescribed uploads now, it's hard to pick anything besides the big players. We used to have recommendations once in a while, but I feel like they disappeared completely? Thus most uploads feel like "here, take it or leave it, I don't care". Or is it just me?
