One question I do have is that if you donate as a VIP or whatever the top tier is do all the rules still affect you?

That is a good question

no, it's not a good question.. please, guys, look in the F.A.Q. sometimes. user classes.

but the only way to get permanent VIP for donation is Platinum Status, given for one time $100 or accumulated $200.

Forgot to do that first

It does seem like it is much harder to improve my ratio lately.  I've been seeding everything I download for a couple of months now and I expected my ratio to improve substantially because of it.  It used to be that I would seed a bunch of downloads for a week or two and my ratio would shoot up quickly.  Did something change or are there just more seeders these days?

maybe more seeders, maybe you are seeding old torrents. not sure, you might want to take some ratio free torrents early on. etc

Yes and no Bobross, no significant changes. The one change which has occurred in recent times is the addition of multiple high speed server doing some seeding, users come and go with these. Of course when they are active the line share of the bandwidth is coming from them.

With a share ratio of over eleven you are cruising!

:thankyou:

nah.. last 2 replies - scratch them off...  :geek:  :geek:  :geek:

it's simple math

your up 426GB, down 38, roughly. let's even do 440GB and 40GB, for the sake of easiness.

so your ratio is 440/40 = 11. let's say 1 yeah ago your ratio was same, and downloads and uploads - twice less, it's acceptable assumption, right? so you had 220/20 = 11 ratio one year ago. so back then to grow your ratio by 1, you needed to, let's also assume, keep downloads at minimum, lets say 1GB, and upload XX GB of data, so to have ratio of 12: (220+xx)/(20+1)=12, so xx = 32 GB - that much data you'd need to upload on 1GB of downloads to visibly change your share ratio from 11 to 12 one year ago. and now? again, equation (440+yy)/(40+1)=12, so yy = 52GB.. see what i mean? due to proportionality of the equation, the more you are here, the more you need to upload to keep your ratio growing, while keeping downloads down. i noticed my ratio fell from 27 to 24 over last year, although i've upgraded my personal upload speed from 3mbps to 6mbps, it still doesn't help much...

another interesting fact, let's see if how much data needs to be downloaded without substantial uploads, so that ratio would visibly change by 1 again, now lower though? 1 year ago: 220/(20+xx)=10 -  xx = 2GB, while now it is 440/(40+yy)=10 - it's 4GB, double from the year ago, and to visibly increase ratio - you need 440/(40-yy)=12 -> yy=3.33GB, see? VS 52GB of uploads, you only need to reduce your downloads by 3..75GB to have ratio 12. but what i am trying to say is.. when you got good ratio, it's smarter to seek reducing your downloaded amount to grow the radio, rather then spend all effort on increasing uploaded amount. if you spending points for upload credit when you have ratio of 11 with those data, you will need 52GB of uploads thus 52k points, to visibly change your share-ratio, right? but with downloads you'll only need 3.33GB, making it about 7k points. 7.5 times less.

so it's all connected....

Good point -- and I have been using points lately towards download debit so it sounds like we are on the same page slash! Thanks for that analysis.

What is the share ratio about ? i do seed what i download from here. I'm a little confused
dimitrilightning pwr on March 30th, 2014 / post 62998
I am not so convinced by the new rules. I understand the sharing/quality idea but i think that tm is also facing soundcloud, mixcloud and all the sources where DJs place their sets themselves. When I joined in 2006 none of these existed. While I am sticking around I cannot help noticing the numbers of snatched torrents even for the quality music is going down on average - people have the mixes in multiple sources. If the idea is to make the web site a closed circle of the already existing users, job done, it would be too much of a hassle if I were a brand new user. Given that I have been around for a while I will post my 10 forum posts and 15 or something mix comments to preserve power user status or whatever. Probably with the next change when I will have to post 3.4 comments a day and keep a minimum ratio of 7 I will have enough of it and stop catering. Tightening the rules when there is an alternative is not a good idea in my mind.

I'm sorry to say I'm with dimitri on this one. Even though my journey with TM has had a few breaks caused by major life events, it doesn't change the fact that I've been a power user since 2006. IMO, having a 1.5+ ratio should suffice. Why the need for 8 forum posts? And 30 comments? THIRTY? Seriously? Who came up with these numbers and where's the logic in that? Some of us enjoy being silent, lazy, or just helping the comunity by seeing torrents.

i am greatly touched at all of your guys' concern about the possible spam-like posts and comments... what else is new? if you guys are starting your 10 posts with a "righteously pissed off" post, then it's cool. if just posting 1 post and going - who the fuck cares..
