I am using Deluge on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Deluge can be got here: https://deluge-torrent.org/

After installation of Deluge go to Edit, Preferences.

Download tab. Tick ON Move completed torrents to: and put your folder here, or in my case it is a SMB share on another box.

This is where one would put existing stuff if you have changed from another client

Download tab. Tick ON Auto add .torrents from: and put your folder here, or in my case it is a SMB share on another box.

Special note about Tick ON Add torrents in a Paused state. This is what you will need to bring over any existing torrents if you have changed from another client. then move all those files into the right place, and, unfortunately go find the webpage on TM and download that file again, but leave it PAUSED!

Then go to that file/s and right click, move storage to that folder, right click again and force re-check, then your TM will Resume and will seedaway!

My connection is Fibre and all of my network is setup using Cat6 cable, thus 1000Mbit.

My 'Router' is another box running IpCop. on that I have forwarded the relevant port so that I am connectable and can seed

My internet connection as measured at https://www.speedtest.net/ comes in at

Upload; 2.30 Mbps
Download; 35.40 Mbps

Note that I went to the setting at speedtest to change to Mbps and to select a server close to me that seems stable

I change those as the speed is easy to be confussed about!

Now, Edit, Preferences, again [then Network, and Bandwidth Tab] and setup your down and upload speeds to a reasonable level so that network bandwidth is still stable for browsing and other stuff.

Incoming ports. Untick and set both to the same value in your router for port forwarding
Outgoing tick ON Use random ports.

Bandwidth tab;

Max Download speed KiB/s Mine is set to 1800

Maximum Upload speed KiB/s Mine is set to 288

all those other settings seem understandable thus no comment here, but you can post if any questions as to what works for me.

oh, another comment; It flattens me that anyone would ever consider using uTorrent as it comes with advertisements! Who in their right mind want that?!

One would want to add PPA to get automatic updates;

Open a Terminal [Ctrl Alt and t] then enter the following;

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:deluge-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install deluge

Edit, made a critical typo, now fixed!

Updating as my ISP bumped up my speeds

Now I get;

Upload; ~6 Mbps
Download; ~110 Mbps

Max Download speed KiB/s Mine is now set to 8000

Maximum Upload speed KiB/s Mine is now set to 600
